What is Massage?

Massage is the practice of manipulating soft tissue with physical touch to meet both the functional and sometimes psychological goals by accredited professionals. This is a either a complementary technique to either support various modalities or treatments or a stand alone as a treatment to achieve results.

Massage involves working on the client's body with pressure (structured, unstructured, stationary, and/or moving), tension, motion, or vibration. Applied with hands, fingers, elbows, and forearm or with medically approved aids ie: the Jacknobber. Massage targets tissues including muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints or other connective tissues, as well as lymphatic vessels, and/or organs.

Swedish / Therapeutic

Unwind and move freely after receiving a massage which includes a variety of techniques including acupressure which will allow the body to relax whilst supporting the healing and increasing blood flow into the muscles, you to feel taller & lighter.

Swedish / Therapeutic massage is beneficial for reducing/alleviating stress & tension from the body & mind.

Relaxation Massage

This is a very slow massage with a lighter pressure than remedial or sports to allow the body to relax will still moving toxins out of the muscles to assist with aiding healing and recovery from tense muscles particularly stress and headaches.

Acupressure Therapy

Acupressure is an ancient healing art over 5,000 years developed in Asia and is applied using fingers to gradually press key points on the body to stimulate the body's healing properties. Acupressure Therapy is an effective treatment for relieving a number ailments including: stress - related, preventative health care for boosting the immune system, releasing tension, increasing circulation and reducing pain and enabling deep relaxation.

When the acupressure points are stimulated they release muscular tension, promoting blood circulation and enhancing the body's natural abilities to heal. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same pressure points and meridians but acupuncture uses needles and can be used over the body including the face, hands and feet.

Acupressure is a complimentary treatment and can be applied during massage to provide an overall sense of calm & relaxation.

Lymphatic Drainage

A very gentle but effective therapy that relaxes the nervous system and aids the body's immune system. This treatment involves a range of specialised and gently rhythmic pumping techique to move the skin to direct the lymph to the lymph nodes. This technique will promote the lymph to transport any toxins, dead cells, viruses, bacteria and chemicals from the body via the nodes.

Other benefits include relieving fluid congestion, promoting wound healing, relieve stress & anxiety.

Remedial Massage

This is a deep tissue massage to assist with mobility of a joint and/or alleviate tension which maybe restricting your movement. Remedial massage uses a combination of techniques including Trigger point therapy to specifically aid in the reduction of headaches, stiffness of joints and is great on the feet.

This can be used in conjunction with chiropractic/physiotherapy and other health care professionals to aid your recovery and well-being.

Reiki

A Reiki treatment is for the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit with the benefits to include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. It works very well with other modalities including both therapeutic and medical to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

The word Reiki is from two Japanese words - Rei meaning: 'God's wisdom or the Higher Power' and Ki meaning: 'life force energy'. Reiki is 'spiritually guided life force energy'.

Reiki is founded from a Japanese technique believing to increase or balance the 'life force energy', if the energy is low then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, if it is high, then we are more capable of being healthy and happy.

Ortho-Bionomy

Ortho-Bionomy is a gentle, non-invasive bodywork therapy that's helpful for many pain and stress conditions.

Offers long-lasting changes by re-educating the body to effectively maintain balance and optimal functioning on its own. Based on the principle that the body is an intelligent self-regulation and self-healing system, this approach uses no force manipulations, painful techniques or deep pressure.

Clients report experiencing pain relief, deep relaxation, increased range and ease of movement, feelings of ease and lightness throughout the body, improved postural balance, faster recovery times from injuries, a sense of self-empowerment, increased vitality and emotional balance, and an increased sense of well-being.

Sports Massage

Is a technique which is faster & not used to slow you down, is generally used with deep tissue / remedial massage to assist with recovery of an injury and breaking down scar tissue. Particularly suitable for those who work out in gyms, play sport or prefer this style of massage.

MLD - Manual Lymphatic Drainage

A very gentle but effective therapy that stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system to promote relaxation, reducing pain by sedating the sensory nerve endings and aids the body's immune system.
MLD is not a muscular massage, but works above the muscle fascia where 70% of the lymphatic fluid is located. This treatment involves a gentle rhythmic pumping technique to move lymph fluid under the skin directed to the lymph nodes. This technique will promote the lymph to transport any toxins, dead cells, viruses, bacteria and chemicals from the body via the nodes.
Other benefits include relieving fluid congestion, promoting wound healing, and relieving stress & anxiety.

Pregnancy Massage

This is a wonderful massage for expecting mothers to support the changes in the body from the growing baby which places strains and tension on muscles particularly after the first trimester. Massage is a great way to support the mother for back aches, hips and aching legs, neck and shoulder tension and headaches.

It is important for the therapist to have an understanding of the changes within the body and to work with the expectant mother to find relief and support during the massage.

Myofascial Release

This is a very gentle but effective therapy using sustained pressure to the fascial system to eliminate pain and reduce restriction from the muscle. Fascia is a thin connective tissue which is found throughout the body including muscles, bones, organs, arteries and veins connecting the body together.

This is a very beneficial treatment for anyone suffering from any condition which will not allow pressure on the body ie: fibromyalgia but can assist.

Myofascial Cupping Technique

The Myofascial Cupping Technique involves the gliding of negatively pressured cups over the body with the assistance of massage cream and can be accompanied by joint mobilisation.

This unique technique 'lifts and separates' soft tissue, known as negative or tensional pressure. This in turn can increase nutrient-rich blood supply to the tissue, while giving a gentle passive stretch to the underlying soft tissue.

It has profound benefits, particularly with increasing Range of Motion, reducing Myofascial Trigger Points and reducing painful adhesions commonly found from repetitive movement from sport, workplace or injury.
